Privacy Policy
Veolang is a Chrome extension that automatically translates YouTube subtitles into your chosen language. This page describes what data the extension handles and what it does not.
1. Data we collect
None. Veolang does not operate any server. The extension does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information, browsing history, watched videos, subtitle text, or analytics on our side.
2. Data stored locally on your device
The extension uses Chrome's built-in storage APIs to remember your preferences. This data stays on your device (and, where you have signed in to Chrome, may be synced to your own Google account by Chrome itself):
- Settings (
chrome.storage.sync): your chosen target language, on/off state, and similar preferences. - Session state (
chrome.storage.local): temporary state used to keep the extension working between page loads.
We have no access to this data. Uninstalling the extension removes the local copies; the synced copy is governed by your Google account settings.
3. YouTube and third parties
To translate subtitles, the extension reads subtitle data that YouTube already serves to your browser when you watch a video. This communication happens directly between your browser and YouTube — Veolang is not in the middle and does not see, log, or forward that traffic.
Veolang does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
4. Permissions used by the extension
- Access to youtube.com — required to detect the player, read subtitle tracks, and display translated captions.
- Storage — required to remember your settings as described above.
The extension does not request permission to read other websites, your browsing history, your clipboard, or your downloads.
5. Children
Veolang is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.
6. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
