Frequently Asked Questions

Subtitles in my language are not showing up.

When YouTube receives too many auto-translation requests in a short time, it temporarily blocks them. This is a YouTube system limit — not something Veolang can bypass.

How to fix (fastest first):

  1. Click on the video, then press the C key once to turn captions on.
  2. Once English subtitles appear, open the Veolang popup and re-select your language.
  3. If it still doesn't work, wait 5–10 minutes and try again. Switching between many videos quickly can deepen the block.
Subtitles don't come back after an ad.

YouTube turns off captions during ads. If they don't return automatically, click the video and press the C key once.

What happens on videos with no subtitles?

If the video has no caption track at all (not even auto-captions), there is nothing for Veolang to translate.

In that case a small ℹ️ icon and the message "This video has no subtitles" appears for 5 seconds at the bottom right of the player.

Which languages does Veolang support?

You can receive translated subtitles in 12 languages:

  • 한국어, English, 日本語, Tiếng Việt, ไทย, Bahasa Indonesia
  • Español, Français, Deutsch, Português, 简体中文, 繁體中文

The popup and welcome page UI are available in the same 12 languages. The source subtitle can be any language YouTube provides.

Does Veolang collect my data?

No. Veolang does not run any server and does not collect or transmit your watch history, subtitle text, or personal information.

Your settings (language choice, etc.) are stored locally in Chrome's chrome.storage. Subtitle data flows directly between your browser and YouTube — Veolang is not in the middle.

See the Privacy Policy for details.

Does it work on Netflix, Twitch, or other sites?

Currently v1.0.x is YouTube only. Other sites use entirely different subtitle systems that do not work the same way.

We will reconsider other platforms after launch based on user demand.

Can I use it on Edge, Brave, or other browsers?

Veolang is published on the Chrome Web Store. It also works on Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Arc, and others) without changes.

Firefox and Safari use different extension systems and are not currently supported.

What subtitles do I see on the free plan?

On the free plan you see YouTube's native subtitles as-is. Veolang only triggers auto-translation and filters noise captions ([Music], [Applause], etc.).

The font, size, and position of the subtitles are exactly what YouTube renders. Veolang's own subtitles (enhanced readability + size/position adjustment) are a Lite-only feature, coming soon.

When will Lite launch?

Lite is planned for summer 2026. It activates these five things at once:

  • Unlimited use (no 10-videos-per-day cap)
  • Enhanced-readability Veolang subtitles (adjustable size, position, background, and more)
  • Source + translation dual subtitles
  • Subtitle download (.srt / .vtt)
  • Click a subtitle → jump to that moment

See the pricing page to get notified at launch.
